The Assisi Tour is a day trip from Rome that gives you the chance to get out of the busy metropolis and experience a typical Umbrian-region community. Here, history and culture have not yet been touched by modernity.
Joined by one of our guides, thanks to the Assisi Tour you will depart by coach through Tuscan countryside, passing small medieval towns such as Spoleto, Trevi, and Orte. Outside of Assisi, we will stop at the lovely town of Santa Maria degli Angeli and its Chapel of Porziuncola, where Italy’s beloved Saint Francis died in 1226. Saint Francis is the founder of the Francescan Order, known for their dedication to live among the poor. He is also one of the patron saints of Italy.
Once in town, Assisi Tour participants will enjoy a lunch at a local restaurant before visiting the Church of St. Clair, where St. Francis was born, and his nearby childhood home, which in comparison to his impoverished adult life, was quite splendid from the wealth of his silk-trading father.
Assisi Tour also includes visits to the People’s Palace, Roman Temple dedicated to Minerva, and finally St. Francis’ Basilica. The basilica hosts amazing 12th century frescoes that are truly awe-inspiring for their preservation. The entire afternoon you will be with our tour guide willing to answer any questions you may have.
Important: Entering the Basilica requires a strict dress code. Shoulders and knees should be covered, no shorts. Please respect dress code at all other Italian churches.
For the remaining time, we encourage you to visit the small shops, drink an espresso, and converse with the friendly locals.
